Club History

Merrimac Ironclad Ship

The name Merrimac was chosen representing the 684-ton iron clad warship used during the Civil War and indicating the indestructibility of united minority campers and camping units. We chose the majestic colors of the United States: Red, White, and Blue.

Merrimac obtained a charter with Good Sams in 1980 and the club name became Merrimac Sams. We joined the National African American Recreational Vehicles Association (NAARVA) in 1998 and we are still affiliated with both organizations.
